Lemonade Stand for the Next Generation
Ralph Williams, father of Patrick, 8, and Joe, 6, taught his sons about the financial world by encouraging them to start a candle-making business. Their first clients included family and friends, but soon expanded to local businesses, eventually incorporating as FranChild. Their corporation then fostered a second company, which created handmade, organic soaps in a variety of scents. Other enterprises carry a bee theme on organic cotton T-shirts and jewelry.
This fun and easy way to earn extra spending money has inspired the brothers to help other kids learn business basics. They enjoy sharing some how-to’s of manufacturing, marketing, packaging, branding, private labeling, sales and money management. Thus, the “My Kids First Biz” franchise-like business experience for children was born.
Membership includes a company certificate acknowledging the child’s business launch, business cards templates, selling ideas and marketing support. An online community, called “The Hive,” enables members to share ideas.
Start-up member cost is $25. For information on launching a kid business, visit www.FranChild.com.
